What’s inside

Eleven built-in tools in one simple app, and you can add your own. Pick one from the home screen, fill in the form, and press Apply.

Video

Convert
Batch-convert videos between formats, with optional deinterlace and GPU encoding.
Trim
Cut seconds off the start and/or end of one or more files.
Stitch
Join several clips into a single video, in the order you choose.
Download
Save videos or playlists from supported sites as MP4 or MP3.
Rename
Organise TV shows and movies for Plex or Jellyfin, or tidy any folder and file names with reusable profiles.

Subtitles

Translate
Translate SRT subtitles into another language with OpenAI (bring your own key).
Clean Up
Remove links, credits and other junk lines from SRT files.

Experimental

DVD (VTS)
Merge the pieces of a DVD rip into one file per title.
Audio Default
Choose which audio language plays by default in MKV files.
Fix Duplicates
Remove “(2)”, “(3)” … suffixes from file names.
Rename Folders
Name folders like “2006 juli 13 – Holiday” using the dates in your videos.

Add tools of your own

Every tool above is a “mod”, and you can write more: a folder with a small settings file and a Python script. Mods you add start switched off, and Toolbox shows what a mod says it can do before you turn it on. How to write one

Installing it

Toolbox isn’t signed with a paid developer certificate, so your computer may ask you to confirm once. That’s expected, and it’s safe to continue.

Windows

Download and open the installer (Toolbox-Setup-…-win64.exe).
If Windows says “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Finish the installer, then start Toolbox.

macOS

Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Toolbox into your Applications folder.
The first time, right-click (or Control-click) the app and choose Open, then confirm.
If macOS still blocks it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.

Linux

Download the .AppImage file.
Make it executable: chmod +x Toolbox-*.AppImage (or tick “Allow executing” in the file’s properties).
Run it. The build is for 64-bit Intel/AMD (x86_64) computers.

First launch needs the internet.

Toolbox downloads ffmpeg (about 100 MB) once, so the installer itself stays small. If your antivirus blocks it, press Retry in the app. Already installed? Update from Settings → Updates inside the app.

Coming from Media Tool?

Toolbox is the new name of Media Tool. Install it over the old version and your settings, your own mods and the ffmpeg download come along. On macOS and Linux the app is a new file, so you can delete the old Media Tool afterwards.
